Brief Brand History for
Michel Parmigiani opened his watchmaking workshop in 1976. He gained renown restoring several complicated clocks and watches which included pieces from the Patek Philippe Museum. This experience allowed him to encounter historical timepieces, building a useful repository of knowledge. After working with the large collection of the Sandoz Family Foundation, Michel Parmigiani founded his own brand with the Foundation's backing. Parmigiani debuted his first wristwatch, the Toric QP, in 1999. Soon after, the Sandoz Family Foundation acquired a luxury casemaker and two partmakers, allowing the company to manufacture its watches in-house. In 2003, the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier was created for the purpose of engineering highly complicated calibers. In 2004, Parmigiani partnered with the luxury car company Bugatti to create an engine inspired wristwatch. 2016 saw the introduction of the brand's first integrated chronograph movement. Parmigiani Fleurier is notable for its independence in the development and manufacturing of its cases and movements.
Product Line Overview
The Kalpa Collection hosts some of Parmigiani Fleurier's most avant-garde timepieces. At the forefront of the Kalpa's design is a striking, tonneau case shape with exaggerated lugs. The Kalpa is available in several metals, with gem setting, and in masculine and feminine variations. The Kalpagraph line hosts large chronographs while the feminine Kalparisma is more refined.
The Tonda Collection features watches in more conventional round cases made distinctive by pronounced lugs. The Tonda can be found in several high complications, including perpetual calendar, tourbillon, and skeletonized movement variation. The Tonda Collection is subdivided into several lines. The elegantly sporty Tonda PF is highly recognizable owing to its clean, Grain d'Orge guilloché dial pattern and fluted bezel. The Tonda PF is available in annual calendar and chronograph variations. The Tonda Hemispheres features retrograde date and GMT complications. The Tonda Metrographe is an elegant chronograph, displaying a simple dial with three subdials. The Tonda Metropolitaine takes on a far more elegant and formal appearance than its counterparts. The Tonda Quator possesses an annual calendar complication. Finally, the Tonda GT is a sporty chronograph with a voguish integrated bracelet or strap.
First introduced in 1999 with the Toric QP, the Toric Collection has long been a staple of the Parmigiani Fleurier brand. The design of the Toric case is defined by the innately appealing proportions of the golden ratio and knurling along the bezel. The collection hosts several prestigious complications, including perpetual calendars, rattrapante chronographs, and retrograde functions.
