Brief Brand History for

In 1860, Louis Ulysse Chopard founded his manufacture in Sonvilier, Switzerland. Due to the precision of Chopard’s watches, his company became one of the main suppliers to the Swiss Railway Company. Famously, Tsar Nicholas II was a client of Chopard. Upon his death in 1915, the business fell to his sons who moved the company's operations to La Chaux-de-Fonds. At this time, Chopard mostly manufactured pocket watches and ladies' wristwatches. In 1937, the business again relocated to Geneva. The Chopard family sold the company to jewelry entrepreneur Karl Scheufele in 1963. The Scheufele family retains ownership of the business today. In 1976, Chopard unveiled the now-famed "happy diamonds" concept, which featured free-floating diamonds atop the dial. In 1996, the company established its own movement manufacture in Fleurier. Today, Chopard still produces tens of thousands of timepieces every year.

Product Line Overview

Among the best known of Chopard's watches is the elegantly sporty Alpine Eagle. The design is defined by eight exposed screws, a brushed case, and an integrated bracelet. Roman numerals mark the hours at twelve, nine, six, and three. The dial also features a highly unique, swirling finish inspired by an eagle's iris. The Alpine Eagle is available in time and date only, chronograph, and tourbillon variations, steel, titanium, precious metals, and varying degrees of gem-setting. The watch can also be found in several sizes: the XL, large, and small with case diameters of 44, 41, and 36 millimeters respectively.

The Chopard brand has a strong connection to car racing, exemplified by its Mille Miglia and Racing Stripes Collections. The Mille Miglia Collection hosts chronographs inspired by the automotive industry, available under the Classic Chronograph and GTS sub-collections. The Mille Miglia can be found in updated editions pertaining to specific years and races. There are also limited Racing Stripes editions of the Mille Miglia which feature racing stripes on the dial.

Louis Ulysse Chopard, the brand's founder, lends his initials to the L.U.C. Collection. The collection is dedicated to exceptional watchmaking, combining contemporary designs with classic elements. The collection is divided into several sub-collections, including Elegance, Complications, Grand Complications, and Heritage. Honoring the horological prowess of Louis Chopard, the collection hosts extraordinarily complex high-horology pieces and grand complications. Among these exceptional watches are the perpetual calendar, perpetual calendar chronograph, tourbillon, perpetual calendar tourbillon, and minute repeater.

The Happy Diamonds family of watches is well known for its inventive incorporation of free-moving diamonds in the dial. The Happy Diamonds Collection is defined by two sapphire crystals which enclose a space in which diamonds may freely move around a central dial. The Happy Sport Collection is slightly sportier, with larger cases and dials that feature roman numerals. Unlike the Happy Diamonds Collection, the Happy Sport Collection's free floating diamonds hover above the dial.

Chopard also produces several other women's collections. The L'Heure du Diamant Collection hosts high jewelry timepieces with dials and cases elegantly adorned with numerous prong-set diamonds. The Imperiale is unique owing to the way in which its lugs are attached to the case. Most Imperiale watches are set with diamonds. The Imperiale Joaillerie may be set with diamonds and colored sapphires on the case and dial. The Imperiale is available in several complications, including the Imperiale Moonphase and Imperiale Tourbillon. Chopard also produces the Alpine Eagle and L.U.C. Collections in smaller, feminine variations.
