Baldur’s Gate 3 patch fixes horrifying ‘Pinocchio issue’

And no more leaving behind companions who refuse to jump

Larian Studios’ latest hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam early this morning, bringing with it a variety of improvements to one of the year’s best and biggest games.

“Have you found some characters’ faces turning into stretched eldritch horrors with pits of flesh in place of eyes?“ Larian Studios community manager Salomé Moreira García asked players before diving into specific hotfix details. “That should not be a problem anymore!”

Apart from fixing the aptly named “Pinocchio issue,” several examples of which have been shared online since Baldur’s Gate 3 last major update, Hotfix #15 also makes the game more stable by correcting a handful of crash scenarios and performance dips across all platforms. Also notable is the studio’s continued considerations for modding: A block that prevented players from loading a save if mods that were present when that save was made had gone missing should no longer be an issue.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players were happy to learn that companions can now jump of their own volition while following the point character, removing the necessity of switching between party members to ensure the group stays together.

“I love this game, but [the companion jumping bug] was the most infuriating part of it,” wrote one thankful Steam user. “Jumping across a gap and watching Gale just stand there staring at me happened so many times, and then I’d switch to Gale and all the other mfs on my team would jump back to stand next to him.”

Oh, and apparently some of the lava bubbles near the Sentient Amulet chest in Grymforge were “causing savegames to become very large,” but that’s also been fixed. All video games, ladies and gentlemen, are delightful mysteries held together by string and prayers.

The next level of puzzles.
